Dental Care
Your pet's overall wellness includes great oral health!
Routine dental care is critical to improve, manage, and maintain your pet's overall good health. Undetected dental disease can have significant impact on your pet's health, and could even lead to more serious conditions, like heart or kidney disease. Therefore, we at Perky Paws Pet Hospital stress the importance of dental care, and perform a dental exam every year during your pet's annual wellness exam. We also recommend regular professional teeth cleaning for your dog and cat at our hospital. Frequent removal of dental plaque and tartar is the basis for prevention of the most common oral diseases in pets.
Starting with your pet's first dental exam, we:
- Provide an overview of your pet's oral health
- Examine his or her mouth for any signs of discomfort, disease or any loose/broken teeth
- Design an individualized oral health care plan for your pet that includes home care information, regular exams, and any other important recommendations
During a professional teeth cleaning for your pet, we:
- Perform a complete dental exam
- Use modern and safe ultrasonic equipment to clean your pet's teeth both above and below the gum line
- Polish the teeth to create a smooth surface that is more resistant to plaque and tartar buildup
- Apply a complete fluoride treatment
- Give your pet comprehensive pain management before, during and after any oral procedure that may produce discomfort
- Our well-trained technicians will monitor your pet while under general anesthesia with the aid of digital monitoring equipment
- Your pet will have a designated technician/nurse assigned to him or her at all times
- Dr. Farmer will administer local anesthesia for all surgical tooth extractions
- We will provide home dental care instructions and product recommendations
- We will refer you to veterinary dentists and specialists when needed
- We strongly encourage at-home prevention and maintenance procedures. Dr. Farmer or one of her veterinary technicians will discuss the proper oral health care for your pet with you after your pet's dental procedure
- We may perform minor oral surgery including tooth extractions, fistula repair and removal of oral tumors
If you notice your pet exhibiting any of these signs of dental disease, please give us a call to schedule a dental exam for your pet:
